SOLAR SPLASH 17 COMPETITION
Solar Splash 17 is an intercollegiate solar boat competition that tests team’s abilities to perform in a variety of demanding events. The endurance, slalom, and sprint on water events, challenge groups to develop a system that can withstand long durations of use but also has the ability to travel at high velocities and maneuver. To increase the difficulty there are strict limits on solar power and battery weight.
Endurance
The endurance event consists of two, two hour heats in which teams compete to travel the furthest distance around a set course.
Sprint
Solar Splash 17 also features a sprint event which challenges teams to push their systems to the limit in effort to travel a 300m straight away in the least amount of time.
Slalom
In the slalom portion of the competition teams must navigate a circuit teach racing against to clock to achieve the best time possible. The circuit course provides challenging turns to test the systems ability to maneuver.
